On October 13th, I went for a Picnic with Kids of Asha Kiran...one of the child homes that the company I work for supports...I was asked to write a write-up on that day...thought why not preserve it in my blog pages...so here it goes:
A picnic to Zoo would be every childs dream. It was my dream too, and better was that I went with a bunch of enthusiastic Kids! Sravani, Vijaya, Prakash, Suresh and I with Neel rediscovered our childhood and spent one of our best days with Asha Kiran kids.
A picnic at Zoo completely sponsored by MITR was planned for each of the homes. The outing for Asha Kiran kids was on 13th October for which we volunteered. The day started at Asha Kiran, we joined the kids for a breakfast sponsored by MITR. Less of eating and more of playing with kids
was the norm of the morning! After the quick breakfast we started our journey to the Zoo. Played antakshari and few new games which was taught to us by the Kids. We reached Zoo within no time, because with all the fun we never realised how the time flew! Reached the Zoo and after the initial arrangements, we got distributed into 3 groups and took the Zoo Van to visit all the animal enclosures. It was tough managing the kids since all of them wanted to go here there everywhere at the same time! But all of us were equally at awe watching the white Tigers play, Scared where the Himalayan Bear would jump and come onto us, Amazed at watching Storks fish, Felt lazy looking at the Rhino and Hippo bathe in the sun! Refused to believe that the Crocodiles were real and Happy looking at Deers/Nilgai's jump and play!
The Kids enjoyed every moment and that made up for most of our day! We took a ride in the Train at the Zoo, admired all the animals all over again and ofcourse played sitting in the Train too. Before we realised, it was time for Lunch. All of us settled on rocks and garden to eat. Kids were served their lunch and we took our places on the rocks beside the kids. After the filling lunch, it was time for some parrot watching and ofcourse GAMES! Neel organised a small game for the kids, followed by a running competition and then blind-fold game. We all played and enjoyed the afternoon to perfection. The Picnic was turning out to be real fun. After the lunch and following games, divided into 2 batches, we went for boating at the Mir Alam Tank. It was slightly hot but it couldn't dent the happy times we were having! After the boating we headed for the Jungle Safari.
The Jungle Safari was a visit thru the mini jungle at the Zoo which housed Lions, Tigers, Bears and Nilgai's roaming in the open. The kids were pretty scared and yet eager to watch a Lioness and her cubs out in the open, couple of Tigers which menacingly walked around our Vehicle. All the kids enjoyed every moment and we along with them. Before we realised the day was coming to an end and we had to head back with memories of a beautiful day.
We, living our busy usual lives forget to realise the small moments which can make us happy and help in making others happy. All of us should realise and give if not anything material, atleast a smile back to the society. Its really amazing to see how little time it takes the kids to get close to us and make us one of their own. They speak to us, sing with us, play with us and best SMILE with us. Its a skill we have long forgotten. There is a lot we can learn from these children and all they ask in return is spending some time with them. I am eagerly looking forward to spend more time and go on more picnics with the Kids!
